WOMEN'S PROGRAMS

Women's Programs

VAMOS! Community Centers provide programs for hundreds of women every day. After receiving a meal, VAMOS! women participate in many programs that provide training and workshops in the areas of nutrition, parenting, gynecology, occupational therapy, small business start-ups, pediatrics and domestic violence, self-defense, shoe making, electricity basics, drug and alcohol abuse and self-esteem.  Our work with women is centered around bringing poor women together in a safe place and treating them with respect and dignity.  Women at

VAMOS! learn crafts, from embroidery, to jewelry making to weaving bags and purses.  Almost every woman will sell these items to earn additional pesos for their household.  At the same time gathering together with neighbors, with your children taken care of by VAMOS!, allows these women to relax, to exhale, and for a few hours every day, to lift the stress and the anxiety of life from their shoulders.

THE VAMOS! IMPACT

Economic Empowerment: By teaching women handcraft skills such as embroidery, jewelry making, bag and basket weaving, VAMOS! equips them with the skills they need to generate income and support themselves and their families. These skills can be turned into small businesses or supplemental sources of income, providing women with greater financial independence and stability.

Community Building: The VAMOS! Women's Program provides a space for women to come together, share time with their neighbors, and develop friendships. This sense of community fosters social connections and support networks, reducing social isolation and loneliness among participants. Women have the opportunity to learn from one another, share experiences, and build a sense of solidarity and belonging.

Stress Relief and Well-being: The VAMOS! Women's Program offers women several hours of stress-free time in their day. Engaging in creative activities such as crafting can be therapeutic and relaxing, promoting mental health and well-being. Women have the opportunity to express themselves creatively and engage in activities that bring them joy and fulfillment.

Leadership Development: Through the Women's Program, VAMOS! identifies and develops leaders within the community, empowering them to become agents of change within their communities.
